Winternachten Book Club

A deep dive into "Home" by Toni Morrison under the guidance of Corina Maduro

PIP
5,- (excl. boek)

"Whose house is this?" American writer Toni Morrison opened her tenth novel, Home, with this question, which became the theme of the summer edition of the Winternachten Festival in The Hague. The literary festival investigated being at home and feeling at home in society, the city and your body.
Home is about a traumatized soldier who returns to racist America in the 1950s. The works of Morrison, who won the 1993 Nobel Prize for Literature, investigate the experiences of Americans of colour, especially those of women.

During this book club, you dived deeply into this novel together with other readers under the guidance of Corina Maduro (www.boekencurator.nl). The focus was an exploration of the characters and themes. You were free to read the book in English or in Dutch translation; the book club itself was in Dutch. No special knowledge was required to participate, but it was ea good idea to mark striking sentences or passages as you read, so that we could look closely at them together.

  • Saturday 18 June 2022, 15:00 - 16:30 hrs.
  • Ticket: €5 - You can read the book in Dutch or English
  • There is room for 25 participants max.

About the book
Home is a poignant novel about a defeated man who finds his home again. Frank Money, a soldier filled with self-hatred, returns to racist America after sustaining injuries in Korea.
