began some 20 years ago as a wind trio: Arno Bakker (sousaphone), Joop van der Linden (trombone) and Janfie van Strien (clarinet, tenor sax). They toured Russia, England, France and South Africa and worked with the Buena Vista Social Club, among others. The present quintet includes Michael Vatcher (drums) and Matt Darriau (alt sax, kaval, clarinet): 'The same timing in jokes, in complaining, in eating and in playing. The voices melted together and the tooters sounded better than ever.' Their music stems from a wide variety of inspirational sources: Balkan music, klezmer, second line, free jazz, salsa, African highlife, improvised music and punk rock make for a 'good-natured eclectic concert, in which five voices will besiege, absorb, resist and surprise you.' On Winternacht 1 Mark Tuinstra (guitar) will appear with them.
