Cándani
(1965). She studied at the Academy for Higher Arts and Culture. One of the first in Surinam to write poetry in Sarnami. Most of this work was published in Bhasa magazine. She also wrote poetry in Dutch. The Hindu view of the world forms the background for her dark and sombre work. Her first collection Ghungbru tut gail is to appear.

India in diaspora
Three Surinamese-Hindustani writers who feel linked up to their ancestors in India, who were brought to Surinam as contract-labourers. Their emigration to Holland is a second diaspora. Although one of them, Jit Narain, went back to live in Surinam after a long stay in The Netherlands. Host: Michiel van Kempen (Dutch spoken).
