Blue Flamingo
(Oss, 1969) a.k.a. Ziya Ertekin. Originally a fashion designer wanting to become an archeologist, he ended up a treasure hunter. Everywhere in the world he poaches markets looking for 78 records from the early 20th century: jazz exotica and Caribbean music from the 1930s and 40s, and mambos and rumbas from the 1950s. The first edition of his cd 78 r.p.m. of 2008 was sold out in no time. Listening to his music, you imagine yourself in a pre-war Cuban night club or on a French village square the next, or in a smoky jazz club in New Orleans. 'Ultimate dance music, but just a bit older', dj Blue Flamingo calls his own music.

Foyer: Books, Art and music
'A long time before the Internet and television, the world was smaller, quieter. I love that sound when you sink the needle into the groove.' Says Ziya Ertekin, alias DJ Blue Flamingo. But his 78-record turntable he produced nostalgic sounds: from eastern influences in jazz to the way in which mambo nestled itself into the old rhythm & blues.
Also in de foyer: artistic fake by third year students of the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten Den Haag, book stalls, authors autographing, drinks and (fake) snacks.
