Join us for the official opening of A Mile in My Shoes!
Thursday 9 June 2022, 10.00 am - with music, coffee and Director OCW The Hague Korrie Louwes
Especially for the 27th edition of Winternachten international literature festival (the summer edition), art project A Mile in My Shoes, by the British artist Clare Patey (Empathy Museum), comes to the Spuiplein in The Hague. In this interactive 'shoe box', visitors can exchange their own shoes for those of a known or unknown fellow human being. During a short walk they hear the life story of the owner of the shoes through headphones. An ode to empathy!
The 'shoe box' on the Spuiplein will be festively opened on Thursday morning, June 9 at 10.00 am, in the presence of Alderman Robert van Asten, press, and some of the storytellers who belong to the shoes. Korrie Louwes will explain why she thinks this is such an important art project and she has the honour to be the first one to walk a mile in someone else's shoes. Further, there are performances by singer-songwriter Estatilia Brinkman, singer Diamanto Christoforidou and clarinetist Georgia Siama. All visitors will have the opportunity to try out A Mile in My Shoes and choose a pair of shoes in their own size, with an accompanying story. Everyone is cordially invited to this festive moment!
About A Mile in My Shoes
A Mile in My Shoes was previously shown in among others London, São Paulo, New York, Riga, Denver, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne, and now comes for the first time to the Netherlands. Especially for Winternachten many Dutch and unique stories from The Hague were added to the 'shoebox'. Festival De Betovering also makes an important contribution: they made it possible that there are stories by and for children too.
