HemelBesem from South-Africa attends Winternachten festival


"HemelBesem is one of the most productive artist from South Africa. As rapper he scores hit after hit. He is a talented actor and tv-presentor. And he travels all over the country to give workshops and inspire young people."

This is how portrays South-African writers, poet, rapper and activist HemelBesem. He grows up in poverty in Cape Town, where hiphop becomes means of expression to tell about the inequality that he sees around him. Soon, Afrikaans becomes the language in which he expresses himself. His performances build bridges between communities and exposes societal issues. In 2017 he publishes his book God spreekt Afrikaans (God speaks Afrikaans), an ode to Afrikaans as language.

HemelBesem attends Winternachten festival to perform and speak during the storytelling symposium Imagine Africa is the Future and the festival evenings Friday and Saturday Night Unlimited.
