Unfortunately, due to private circumstances, Rachel Cusk has had to cancel her attendance at Winternachten. View the updated Thursday Night Unlimited block schedule here.

None other than Rachel Cusk honours Winternachten with a visit, during Thursday Night Unlimited and in the Whose House is This literary marathon on Friday night. The British-Canadian Cusk is a much acclaimed writer and essayist, and became especially known for her Outline trilogy.

With her philosophical, intelligent and at times elusive work, Cusk conquered the hearts of many readers. She writes honestly and rawly about motherhood, art, womanhood and her own marriage and divorce. A writer to be feared,' Marja Pruis called her recently in De Groene Amsterdammer - in a good way. Her most recent novel, The Second Place, was published in 2021 and shows a striking break in style with her earlier work. Cusk will tell us all about that book and, of course, her earlier work, her overarching themes and how well they tie in with our festival theme Whose House is This? on Thursday, June 16.

Cusk will be interviewed by writer Niña Weijers, who is not only a great lover and connoisseur of Cusk's work but was also inspired by her when writing Kamers, antikamers.
