13-17 January: Winternachten festival 2021
The 26th Winternachten International Literature Festival The Hague will take place from 13 to 17 January 2021. This edition's theme will be It's up to us.
Our programmers will take you to familiar and new venues throughout The Hague to meet writers, performers and spoken word artists.
We think it is very important, especially now, to meet physically at the Winternachten festival. We see the restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 measures as opportunities; in smaller gatherings the experience is more intense and we meet each other more often.
The central question for our time is how we come together as a society. The COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis and the Black Lives Matter movement make it clear: we have to join forces and it is up to us to make a difference. But who is this 'us'? What difference are we going to make?
That is why It's up to us is our Winternachten festival 2021 theme. We derive this phrase - in its Dutch version Het is aan ons - from a particularly beautiful interview Dutch author Eva Meijer recently gave in Kunststof, a weekly Dutch national radio show about the arts.
We like to take you on a voyage of discovery with us. During the festival, and in the coming period, of course, in our newsletters and at our socials.
