'Truth isn't something you will be able to know, but something you ought to believe', the much acclaimed young German writer and philosopher Juli Zeh has written. On Friday night fake showed its many faces, on Saturday night it was all about truth and unadulterated genuineness.
On this busy and buzzing night, the audience, authors and guests mingled amongst the many stages to return to the foyer were DJ Blue Flamingo took his audience on a subtle musical journey. With a full evening's programme in the Main Hall, hosted by Michaël Zeeman, who talked about the Real Thing with Nuruddin Farah, Ilija Trojanow, Marjolijn Februari, Juli Zeh, Bernlef and filmmaker Heddy Honigmann, among others; with a programme on Tamazight, with the young, Flemish writer Rachida Lamrabet participating; with international poetry; a performance by Arthur Japin in the Wintercafe, and with a 'pre-read' of Tip Marugg; with a moving Surinamese-Antillian programme with Shrinivási performing; and last but not least a lot of music (Izaline Calister!) and film.
