BOX OFFICE & practicalities

Find below all information about ticket sales for the Winternachten international literature festival The Hague.

The festival does not sell passe partouts; you buy your desired numbre of tickets for each separate festival event.



Tickets for the festival are - for each festival event separately - available online only through the website of Het Nationale Theater in The Hague. One ticket gives access to the festival event of your choice in Theater aan het Spui and Filmhuis Den Haag.

If you buy Winternachten tickets online through the website of Het Nationale Theater, you must have an account there or create one. If you had an account of Theater aan het Spui, it is possible to create a new account using the same email address.

Buying tickets online is fast and easy. You pays with iDEAL or credit card. Without transaction costs. You will receive your tickets by email, print them and show them at the entrance of Theater aan het Spui.



Fast deciders profit from a ticket price reduction for the grand festival evenings Friday Night Unlimited and Saturday Night Unlimited in Theater aan het Spui and Filmhuis Den Haag.

Up until 26 December 2017, one ticket for Friday Night Unlimited or Saturday Night Unlimited costs only 20,00 euro. From 27 December 2017 on, one tickets costs 28,50 euro.

With CJP or student card, one ticket is 14,25 euro.


BOX OFFICE tickets

Tickets for the Winternachten festival are - besides online through the website of Het Nationale Theater - also for sale at the box offices of Theater aan het Spui and the Koninklijke Schouwburg.

To obtain a reduced price ticket you should be holder of one of these types of reduction cards*:


UITPas, CJP, Student card or Ooievaarspas.

*no further reduction is possible for the Early Bird ticket.



Book a comfortable stay in the very same hotel where all international writers stay during the festival. Novotel Den Haag City Centre is located inside the atmospheric Passge, a five minute walk from Theater aan het Spui. Bus and tramway stop at 100 meters from its entrance. Also good to know: the hotel has its own parking for hotel guests.

Staying at the hotel costs 85,- euro for a single room and 95,- euro for a double room including breakfast. Excluding tourist tax.

Festival location

Theater aan het Spui (address: Spui 187, 2511 BN The Hague) and the adjacent Filmhuis Den Haag together form one large location for Winternachten festival through an indoor connecting hallway. The festival entrance is the main entrance of Theater aan het Spui.


Food and drinks

In the foyers of Theater aan het Spui and Filmhuis Den Haag coffee, tea, drinks and small food items may be bought.

During Friday Night Unlimited and Saturday Night Unlimited, The Hague-based 's-Peer Catering sells special, healthy and most of all delicious biological-vegetarian snacks. Take a look on their website or have dinner in their restaurant De Grote Pyr, located in a monumental building on Waldeck Pyrmontkade in The Hague.



Taking a bike ride certainly is the easiest way to reach the Winternachten festival. The nearby 'Biesieklette' guarded bicycle parking 'Stadhuis' stays open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until 01.00 hours; their parking 'Buitenhof' until 03.00 hours those same days. Bicycle parking is free the first day until closing time that day.

At Theater aan het Spui and Filmhuis Den Haag there is very limited space to park your bicycle. We advice to use the above mentioned bicycle parkings.


Public transport

You may reach Winternachten festival easily with public transport. The railroad stations Den Haag Centraal and Den Haag Hollands Spoor are located at about a 15 to 20 minute walk from the festival location.

HTM buses and tramways take you from these railroad stations or from all other places in The Hague, Leidschendam, Voorburg, Rijswijk and Delft to the festival location. The nearest stops are Den Haag Centrum, Den Haag Spui and Den Haag Kalvermarkt-Stadhuis. For all information, see or

By car & parking

From highway A4/A12: follow signs Den Haag Centrum, then on Utrechtsebaan follow Centrum. Turn left at traffic lights and follow the road over the Prins Bernhard viaduct. After crossing the viaduct choose the entrance to Parking Spui Centre. If you do not enter the parking, you continue and cross the Spui, where Theater aan het Spui is located to your right.

From highway A44 follow the Benoordenhoutseweg and turn left on Boslaan, take the far right lane next to Utrechtsebaan and turn right at the Prins Bernhard viaduct. Across the viaduct, follow the signs to Parking Spui Centre.

Parking Spui Centre and alos Parking Muzenplein stay open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until 02.00 hours. At other parkings, please pay attention to their closing times.
